Hey girls
So lets have a chat about (头发) –(see how I sneaked some
of my mandarin practice in there.)
No but seriously lets talk about hair!!!!!
well actually to be specific
Black hair
(Btw no pictures in this post are mine except the one near the end that is my profile picture. All of these images I retrieved from Pinterest.)
Sooo lately, I have been like crazy wanting to dye and
straighten my hair. Pluss buy a bunch of wigs.
Ultimately I want to look more
Gyaru and a huge staple for the look I have notice is big flashy hair or sleek
hairstyles with bangs. All of them dyed of course.
So as I began my process of drinking my hot chocolate bundled
in my blanket, pretending I could afford … stuff.
I found myself adding numerous wigs to my amazon cart and
shein cart. Just the most Gyaru-est wigs I could think of! All brown and ash
brown colored and curly.
And then instantly my heart raced. Thinking about how I don’t
have to do my hair and can wear wigs all day and the freedom I'd feel being able
to go out without such a frizzy fuzzball on my head.
Then I stopped.
.
.
Many people don’t know but I have struggled GREATLY with a
type of hair dysphoria. I hated my 4b/4c hair texture to the point as a teen
breaking down crying and sobbing for my mom to buy me a flat iron so my hair
would stop looking so ugly.
I would often go to bed and dream of my natural hair
becoming straight and brown or curly and long. Not my kinky afro.
And now as a gyaru.. tbh I kept thinking. It would be
impossible to be a gyaru with my coily afro hair type. As well as there is no
harm in getting a wig and extensions, afterall many real Japanese Gyarus wear hairpieces
wigs and extensions too.
How could I look complete as a Gal with natural black hair?
But also… that’s not the true case I was making.
It wasn’t about whether other gals wore wigs and extensions
or not. But rather should I and could I do the samE?
As a woman who has been
brought to tears over and over again from my natural hair. Cursing my hair as I burnt it
with heat bleached it and attempted but failed to have it be professionally
straightened.
Could I really go back to wearing wigs even for an
aesthetic or fashion?
It took many years for me to learn to love my natural hair,
it has always been resilient and never thinned out on me no matter how much I
abused it or Buried it under wigs or bleached it. It has always managed to
bounce back and regain tremendous health. Currently now my natural hair has
gotten quite thick and long. It is healthier then it has been since I was a
PRETEEN.
I had finally, finally learned to love and appreciate my hair even
when other people have said rude comments about it in public. Something that
beforehand would have had me running home in tears, flatiron in hand to burn it to
a crisp and even contemplate su1c1d3.. yesh I am that emotional about my hair..
Nowadays INSTEAD OF SELF HATING MYSELF i think about how they don’t understand the beauty, strength
and versatility of the African coils that grow from my crown. It is beautiful
and I am beautiful with the hair that naturally grows from my head.
Soooo Ive decided I will choose at least for now to not
pursue incorporating wigs into my gyaru looks. And only use my natural hair
and sometimes use extensions, but I want to keep playing with my kinks coils and all} -Hence
my profile picture.
Ways I will try to maintain my look to still follow a gyaru
look is by attempting to maintain having dyed hair. Though to maintain my hairs
health I only want to dye it between dark brown to maybe light a bit to a dark
burnt ginger/red color. But not blonde or unusual colors that will require bleach.
And with extensions I do hope to try different colors. That
will bring out a gyaru vibe such as blondes, blues, pinks etc. Plus accessories.
So anyways I made a small colage of hairstyle inspo for myself.
Gyaru hairstyles for black and coiled hair gals.
Tbh its actually great so many black and biracial women love
this fashion and kawaii fashion in general because there is so much inspiration
from them.
The right side is gyaru images and the left side is the black hairstyles I would like to copy 🌴
I was gonna make more then one collage so I may make a part two to this post. In the meantimes..
